New for 2018- Enhanced Training Schedule

We've made some changes to our provider development training schedule based on your feedback. This is now an all-inclusive training schedule, covering provider agencies and independent providers. Simply click on the link below to view the current quarterly schedule of training opportunities by month, learn more details about each training and register.

Training requirements for initial certification

Eight hours of training is required before applying for certification.  Topics to include:

  • Incidents Adversely Affecting Health and Safety (MUI)
  • Individual Rights
  • Universal Precautions
  • Person Centered Planning
  • Community Inclusion
  • Self Advocacy
  • Self Determination
  • Overview of Serving Individuals with DD
  • Requirements for Providing Home and Community Based Waiver Services
  • DODD Provider Orientation which is a short training that is located on the DODD website  

Training that must be submitted to renew certification (every 3 years)

  • Incidents Adversely Affecting Health and Safety (MUI)
  • Individual Rights 

Annual Training Requirements

At least 8 hours of training is required each calendar, which must include: 

  • Incidents Adversely Affecting Health and Safety (MUI)
  • Individual Rights
  • Person Centered Planning
  • Community Inclusion
  • Self Advocacy
  • Self Determination
  • Providers Role in Behavior Support Services (HPC Providers only)
Additional training topics are available to meet the additional 4 hours of required training.

Providers can also acquire additional training hours from other sources.  Please contact those sources to register for the training and your questions. Many training options, including webinars, are now available on the Ohio Department of DD website:  Trainings are available from online sources.  Incidents Adversely Affecting Health and Safety (MUI) and Individual Rights and other topics can be obtained for a fee online at:
