Music Therapy

Photo of parent, child and teacherJust What Is Music Therapy?

Music therapy can enhance the quality of life. It is a 'universal language' that crosses age, ability and cultural lines. It is a socially appropriate activity and leisure skill. Most people enjoy music; therefore, music therapy can be the therapy that reinforces all other therapies.

At the Board of DD, music instructors conduct music sessions in a group setting. They also provide music activities in conjunction with classroom staff, adapted physical education instructors, speech and language pathologists and occupational and physical therapists. The staff can provide families with suggestions and resources for using music at home and provide community agencies with supports.
