Behavioral and Health Supports

Behavior Supports

Cuyahoga DD Department of Behavioral & Health Supports provides a wide range of behavior supports to help people thrive in the home and community. While working with eligible people typically over the age of ten, our team of behavioral health professionals focuses on positive approaches rooted in trauma-informed principles. The goal is to help each person move towards their full potential. We deliver services directly to individuals and consult with guardians, develop individualized behavioral strategies, work with the criminal justice system, coordinate with other social service agencies, and train and consult other service providers to meet each person’s specific needs.

Mental Health Supports

All services are intended to assist individuals and their families in the promotion of mental health and well-being. Mental health supports can include:

  • Assessment of behavioral and mental health needs
  • Consultation with parents, guardians and caregivers
  • Referrals to community-based mental health supports when ongoing support is needed
  • Psychological testing if required for service planning
  • Short-term counseling

Human Sexuality Supports

This support includes sexuality and social skills information, education, training, and consultation to adults, their families, caregivers, staff, and community agencies. Services may involve screening, assessment of sexual knowledge, appropriateness of behaviors, strategies for responding to sexual behaviors, and policy development for agencies. These services are available to people aged 18 and older. Cuyahoga DD does not provide direct human sexuality services to minors: consultation may be available to parents and support teams on a limited basis.
